How To Use The MTN Mobile Money Transfer

What is MOBILEMONEY?
MobileMoney is the fast, safe, easy, convenient and affordable way to send and receive money across the country and pay for your goods and services using your MTN Mobile phone.
MobileMoney is offered to you by licensed partner banks: Guaranty Trust Bank, Fortis Micro Finance Bank and powered by MTN.
 
What can you do on MobileMoney?

  • Pay for your goods and services
  •  Buy airtime
  • Withdrawal at MTN agent outlets and ATMs

  • Fast: Immediate money transfer and payment from the comfort of your MTN mobile phone.
  • Safe: Every transaction is protected by a PIN, even if you lose your phone, your money is secured, you will only need to do SIM swap.
  • Easy: It is very easy to use the service. Just register your SIM and dial *500# and start using the service.
  • Convenience: Send and Receive money anytime, anywhere on the go using your MTN line.
  • Affordable: It is cheaper compared to alternatives. There is no COT or any hidden charges; every transaction is done directly on your MTN line.

WHO CAN USE THE MOBILEMONEY?

MobileMoney is available to all MTN subscribers of the service. Transfer can be made to both MTN and non MTN subscribers.

How do I register your MobileMoney Account?
  • To start using this service; Dial *500# and follow the instructions.
                                 Or
  • Do a SIM Swap to have MobileMoney application menu on your SIM card. OR
  • Purchase a new MTN line that already comes with MobileMoney application menu
  • SIM Swap allows you to change your SIM card while retaining your mobile phone

How much Can I transfer?
Depending on whether you currently have a bank account or not, there are three transaction limits you can perform.
  • A single maximum transaction limit  of N3,000 and daily limit of N30,000
  • A single maximum transaction limit  of  N10,000 and daily limit of N100,000
  • A single maximum transaction limit  of N100,000 and daily limit of N1,000,000

How secure is my Account
  • Your account is protected by a PIN, do not disclose to anyone.
  • If you have reasons to believe that your PIN has been compromised, you can change it.

Who do I contact for support?
Contact the MobileMoney Call Centre on 118 or MTN Walk In Centers, Connect stores or MobileMoney agents.

Cash In ( Deposit money by customer )
  1. On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  2. Click on “MM Dealer” è Cash In
  3. Select “Cash in”
  4. Enter customer MTN phone number.
  5. Repeat customer MTN phone number
  6. Enter amount customer wants to cash in (deposit)
  7. Confirm the details supplied
  8. Enter your user ID
  9. Enter your Account PIN
  10. Click NO, when 2nd Authorization displays as you will be performing transaction within your limit.
  11. You  and the customer will receive a message confirming the success of the cash-in along with your remaining balance after the transaction
  12. Collect cash from the customer.

Checking your account Balance
  1. On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  2. Click on “MM Dealer” è Manage Account è Check Balance
  3. Enter your user ID
  4. Enter your account PIN
  5. Click No, when 2nd Authorization displays as you will be performing transaction within your limit.
  6. You will receive a message with your balance.
To view your account Statement
  1. On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  2. Click on MM Dealer” è Manage Accountè View Statement
  3. Enter your user ID
  4. Click No, when 2nd Authorization displays as you will be performing transaction within your limit.
  5. Enter your account PIN
  6. You will receive a message containing the five (5) latest transactions on your account.
To perform transactions through MobileMoney website.
  1. Log on to MobileMoney website
  2. Click on agent log on tab
  3. Enter your log in details in the field i.e 15 digits reference number underscore your user ID
  4. Enter your PIN
To change your account PIN
  1. On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  2. Click on “MM Dealer” è Manage Account è Change Acct PIN
  3. Enter your user ID
  4. Enter your current account PIN
  5. Select a new account PIN
  6. Repeat  the new account PIN your entered in step 4 above
  7. You will receive a confirmation message upon completion.
Doing Transactions on the Internet
You can perform MobileMoney transactions from anywhere using the internet:
  1. Go to the MobileMoney website, www.mymobilemoneyng.com
  2. Click on Agent log on tab
  3. Enter your log in details in the field i.e 15 digits reference number underscore your user ID
  4. Enter your account PIN
  5. Enter your Account PIN
  6. The transaction page will be opened.
To Dial the Mobile Money Call Center
  1. On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  2. Click on "MM Dealer" the Dial Call Center
Deposit money into your account
You may deposit money into your account through a MobileMoney scratch card
  • On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  • Click on MobileMoney -> Load Account
  • Select MM Scratch Card
  • Enter the twelve-digit PIN as printed on the Scratch Card
  • Confirm the details supplied
  • Enter your Account PIN
  • Your will receive a confirmation message of the successful loading.

Send Money
You can send money to a fellow MobileMoney subscriber or to Non-Subscriber
To send money to a MobileMoney subscriber
  • On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  • Click on MobileMoney -> Send Money-> Mobile User
  • Enter receiver’s mobile number
  • Repeat the mobile number
  • Enter the amount you wish to send
  • Enter a reference, e.g. “Gift from Peter” (optional)
  • Confirm the details supplied
  • Enter your Account PIN
  • You will receive a confirmation message
To send money to Non-MobileMoney subscribers
  • On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  • Click on MobileMoney -> Send Money -> Others
  • Enter the amount you wish to send
  • Select a four-digit secret code
  • Repeat the secret code
  • Confirm the details supplied
  • Enter your Account PIN
  • You will receive an SMS containing the secret code and a Token (a randomly generated twelve-digit number)
  • Pass on the Token and the secret code to the receiver. Thereafter, the receiver goes to a MobileMoney Agent to cash out the money.
To cash-out from Token
  • Go to a any MobileMoney Cash-Out agent
  • Tell the agent you have a MobileMoney Token to cash-out
  • Give the Token to the agent, but NOT the secret code
  • The agent will enter this Token on his mobile phone
  • Agent will hand over his phone to you to enter the Secret Code
  • Enter the Secret Code on the agent’s mobile phone
  • The system will process your Cash-out request
Thereafter, collect the cash from the agent

Withdraw Money
You may withdraw money from your account in two ways:
  • Via a participating agent
  • Via an ATM

Via a participating agent
  • Visit any MobileMoney Cash-Out agent
  • Tell the agent how much you wish to cash-out
  • On your phone menu navigate to MTN Services
  • Click on MobileMoney -> Allow Cash-Out
  • Select ‘Cash-Out ON’
  • Enter your Account PIN
  • Supply your mobile number to the agent
  • Await a confirmation prompt from the system (sent by the agent to your phone)
  • Click ‘Ok’ when the confirmation prompt arrives on your phone
  • Click  ‘Yes’ to approve the cash-out
  • Enter your account PIN
  • You will receive a confirmation message of the successful cash-out along with the remaining MobileMoney balance after the transaction.
  • Receive the cash from the agent

Via an ATM
To withdraw money via an ATM you must ensure your debit card is linked to your account and is switched on

To link your MobileMoney debit card to your account
1. On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
2. Click on MobileMoney -> Manage Account -> Bank Card -> Link Bank Card
3. Enter your debit card Number
4. Repeat the debit Card Number
5. Enter your account PIN
6. You will receive a confirmation message upon completion.

To switch on your Debit card
1. On your phone menu, go to MTN services

2. Click on MobileMoney -> Manage Account -> Bank Card -> Bank card ON
3. Enter your account PIN and Click Ok
4. You will receive a confirmation message upon completion.

To switch off  your Debit card
1. On your phone menu, go to MTN services

2. Click on MobileMoney -> Manage Account -> Bank Card -> Bank card OFF
3. Enter your account PIN and Click Ok
4. You will receive a confirmation message upon completion.

Buy MTN Airtime
  • On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  • Click on MobileMoney -> Buy MTN Airtime
  • Enter the amount of Airtime you wish to buy
  • Enter  the beneficiary’s mobile number (no entry is required if your own mobile phone is the beneficiary)
  • Repeat the mobile number entered in step 4 above
  • Confirm the details supplied
  • Enter your Account PIN
  • You will receive a confirmation message

Manage My Account
Check account Balance
  • On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  • Click on MobileMoney -> Manage Account -> Check Balance
  • Enter your account PIN
  • You will receive a message with your balance.
View account Statement
  • On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  • Click on MobileMoney -> Manage Account-> View Statement
  • Enter your account PIN
  • You will receive a message containing the five (5) latest transactions on your account
Save a MobileMoney account number as your favourite receiver
  • On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  • Click on MobileMoney -> Manage Account -> Favourites -> Add Favourite
  • Enter the Name of your favourite
  • Key in your Favourite’s mobile number
  • Repeat the mobile number
  • Enter your Account PIN
  • You will receive a confirmation upon completion
Delete a number that is saved as your Favourite Receiver
  • On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  • Click on MobileMoney -> Manage Account -> Favourites -> Delete Favourite
  • Enter Name or Find
  • Confirm Deletion
  • Enter Account PIN
  • You will receive a confirmation message on completion
Change account PIN
  • On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  • Click on MobileMoney -> Manage Account -> Change Acct PIN
  • Enter your current account PIN
  • Select a new account PIN
  • Repeat  the new account PIN your entered in step 4 above
  • You will receive a confirmation message upon completion.
  • Go to the MobileMoney website, www.GTbank.com/mobilemoney
  • Enter your mobile number.
  • Click on ‘Log on’. This will trigger a “six digit number” display on your web screen; note this number
  • On your phone menu, go to MTN Services
  • Click on MobileMoney -> Manage Account -> My Web Login
  • Enter the six-digit number within 60 seconds to avoid time out
  • Enter your Account PIN
  • You will receive a confirmation message on completion
